SPECIAL EDUCATION 101
Our knowledge of special education has changed over the years. There are terms that I learned 15 years ago when I started my studies in Special Education that we don't use anymore. Laws in special education morphed so fast that it is hard to keep up.

AIM: This workshop will help teachers and parents gain deeper understanding of theories, trends, and interventions relating to Special Education.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: All teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, other providers, and parents.

DESCRIPTION: In this 90-minute workshop, the 13 disabilities as listed by the state of New York will be discussed as well as laws and regulations that support them. IEPs, current trends in special education, classroom interventions, mandated services, and accommodations will also be discussed through videos, articles, open discussion, and case studies. At the end of the session, participants will take with them a Special Education 101 booklet that summarizes the sessions.
