Charlie Fabella was my son’s SETSS (Special Ed Teacher Support Services) provider for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade from 2011 – 2014. My son has ADHD with rather severe executive function issues and he suffered from low self-esteem as the result of his academic struggles. Charlie’s support and tutoring were invaluable in my son’s eventual success during these challenging, transitional years of adolescence.

Charlie worked with my son at home, two or three afternoons a week, providing him with structures and strategies to address his deficits. He worked closely with my son’s classroom teachers to support their goals and expectations. Charlie helped my son to establish effective routines and rituals to remediate his weaknesses. They created checklists and reminders, prioritized assignments, established and maintained a conducive workspace, created neat and organized homework sheets (especially in math), and initiated ongoing strategies for self-regulation.

Charlie helped my son immeasurably academically, but it was his kind personality and genuine affection for my son that helped to bolster his growing sense of himself as a successful student. Charlie’s warmth and patience working with my son were crucial in establishing a trusting bond between them and in motivating my son to achieve success as he moved from middle school into high school. My son has internalized many of the strategies they established together, and these have been responsible for his continued success as he completes secondary school and is poised to enter college.

Charlie has that rare blend of dedication, training, aptitude, commitment, kindness, integrity, and creativity that makes for a wonderful practitioner and I recommend him highly.

Sincerely,

Amy Lipman
