EMPATHY WORKSHOP

" The best teachers are not necessarily straight A students when they were in school."

Unless you are in a school where everybody are geniuses and "normal," chances are there will be students in your school who simply can't spell right, can't remember the multiplication table, can't think fast enough, can't keep their eyes off the windows, or can't sit still for 5 minutes. â€‹It is hard to understand students who are not like us or who came from a different culture, neighborhood, or simply not as intelligent as our own children.

AIM: This workshop hopes to help teachers empathize or at the very least, respect those students in their classroom who simply are different.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: All teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and other providers.

DESCRIPTION: This 90-minute workshop will include videos and anecdotes of both students and teachers as they struggle to understand each other.  It will also include empathy exercises, articles, and case studies. Participants will take with them an empathy booklet that summarizes the session.
